Energy use in Tasmanian schools

Energy use in Tasmanian schools

Tasmanian high schools and colleges use approximately 54% of their energy on space heating, 23% on lighting, 11% on office equipment and computers, 4% on machinery and fans, 3% on catering equipment, 2% on domestic hot water and 3% on other. (Figures supplied by Arthur Masters from Independent Energy Advisory Services)

Energy use for space heating has increased in the past few years, with more teachers and students spending longer at school. Savings can be made by ensuring that the heater thermostats are set at 18°C - 20°C and that heaters are turned off when no-one is using the space.

Lighting is one of the easiest areas for you to tackle when trying to save energy. It is very easy to turn off a light switch – often a reminder is all you need! Why not make some “Switch Off” stickers to put on all the switches around the school?
